Community Organizing and Training
In order to fulfill it’s mission, IBW seeks to work with the People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond, as a strategic partner, (and other similar organizations) to implement Undoing Racism Training. At the core of our oppression is an institutional framework within which racism is imbedded. Our condition will not be fundamentally changed until this system of institutional racism is undone. These training sessions are offered in local communities or in conjunction with selected regional, national or international events.
Central to our implementation strategy is developing skills and building human capacity levels within our communities. The Community Organizer’s Training Institute is a principal means for developing technically competent, trained organizers networked together. The institute will run periodically to help develop basic organizational and community organizing skills. Everything from organizing small group meetings to mass demonstrations will be covered. Fundraising techniques will also be included.
Of special importance to our ability to impact local and national public policy will be our influence on elected decision-makers. One of our key training institutes will focus on Electoral Campaign Strategy and Management. These training sessions will provide a detailed step by step, strategic approach to the science of electoral campaign management. Case studies will be reviewed to understand strategy and errors in management techniques. They will also be used to help potential campaign managers anticipate problems which arise during real campaigns. This institute will include sessions on community mobilization techniques, doing mass mailings, analyzing data, fundraising, managing volunteers, voter registration mobilization, voter identification and election day operations.
Community Development Technical Assistance will be provided by IBW. Not only will IBW be involved in training programs, but it will engage communities in developing their initiatives, as resources are available. A national resource bank of community development technical assistance specialists will provide the pool of skilled personnel who will assist in this effort. |
