Trump finally did something that has been a totally alien concept to him. He told the truth. The truth in this case was that he did indeed racist slur Haiti and African countries as ‘shithole countries” in a January 2018 meeting.
Illinois Senator Dick Durbin who was at the meeting and afterwards publicly called Trump out on the profane, gutter, racist dig. He was roundly denounced as a liar. A slew of GOP officials at the meeting quickly fell in line and did their mandatory lap dog act claiming either they didn’t hear the racist crack or that he never uttered it.
But anyone even one step before comatose knows that Trump not only made the slur but reveled in making it. How could it be otherwise with a guy who has turned race baiting, and racial dog whistling into a studied science and art.
Trump called these nations shitholes because he knew that millions in his enraptured, mesmerized MAGA Nation throng believed that about Black run countries. And more particularly they believed that about Blacks. That is any country that doesn’t look like his self-admitted preferred countries and folk, white Swedes, white Norwegians, and white Danes are for crap.
In his self-admission that he did utter the offensive characterization; he went to great lengths to scream for more of these kinds of immigrants to come to the US. And if they did, they’d be welcome. But why would they come to a country that in comparison to their countries resembles more the Shithole that Trump brands Haiti and African countries. Sweden, Denmark, and Norway are consistently rated the world’s happiest, highest wage, highest living standard, and highest quality of life countries on the planet.
But Trump in slurring Haiti and African nations as shithole countries killed the second racist bird with one stone. He did the Trump obligatory racist dog whistle. And at the same time, he used these countries as foils to again immigrant bash.
Haitian officials and officials from the various African nations for the most part reacted with something that is an equally alien concept to Trump-with studied dignity. They did not take the bait. They did not get into the proverbial pissing match with a skunk. That’s aa sure fire lose lose. The Somali Prime Minister flatly said he would not dignify the slur.
It was no accident that Trump finally came clean in admitting he slurred the countries and meant it. This is a calculated ploy to continue to keep upping the ante in his full-bore assault on non-white immigrants in the U.S.—legal or otherwise.
He’s not finished. You can take to the bank that Trump will invent yet another racist slur in his racist anti-immigrant war. This time it won’t take him six years to admit that he said it and meant it.
