Learn about the UNIA, the organization founded by Marcus Garvey that played a pivotal role in Pan-African unity.

The Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA), founded by Marcus Garvey in 1914, became the cornerstone of the Pan-African movement. With chapters worldwide, the UNIA promoted black pride, economic self-sufficiency, and the unity of people of African descent. The organization’s adoption of the Pan-African flag cemented its role in the struggle for liberation and equality.
