PRIME MINISTER of St Vincent and the Grenadines Dr Ralph Gonsalves is urging young people not to waiver in their fight for reparations.

Gonsalves spoke at the Inaugural Pan African Colloquium Round Table discussion held recently at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill where Ras Iral Talma, Dr Deryck Murray, General Ishola Williams and Professor Serges Kamga also spoke.

The recently reelected leader said he was still full of optimism about the fight.

“I want you to be full of optimism too. I want you to read about [Marcus] Garvey. I want you to read CLR James. I want you to read Walter [Rodney. I] want you to study Hilary Beckles. I want you to get in the forefront of reparations, and I do not want you to ever get weary,” Gonsalves said.

He said there was still opposition from some people who speak pessimistically about the efforts “you hear it from the pulpit, a lot of pessimism anytime reparations is being spoken about”.

He continued: “It appears that we are not making progress, but my life’s experience tell me that you may not appear to be making progress, [but] water heated to 100 degrees Celsius turns into steam but while the process is going on, it is just hot water bubbling, but in the twinkling of an eye it becomes steam,” (TSG)
