The Congressional Black Caucus in partnership with the Greater Washington Urban League and WURD Black Talk Media, hosted an interactive 2-hour evidence-based discussion on mental health issues in the African American community. Historically, communities of color experience unique and considerable challenges in accessing mental health services. The challenges facing our communities are rooted in historical adversity, which includes slavery, race-based exclusion from health, educational, social and economic resources. People who are impoverished, homeless, incarcerated or have substance abuse problems are at higher risk for poor mental health.
