Baltimore, MD – Rev. Dr. Robert Turner, Senior Pastor of Baltimore’s Empowerment Temple and former Pastor of the historic Vernon AME Church in Tulsa, OK, vows to walk to Washington, DC. to bring attention to House Bill HR-40. This bill, carried by Congress Member Sheila Jackson Lee, establishes the Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African Americans. Although Turner makes these “40 for 40 Walks” monthly, this weekend he is walking in honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“I look forward to more and more faith leaders and people of conscience joining our monthly 40 for 40 walks in support of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and the HR-40 Strategy Group’s efforts to persuade President Biden to create the HR-40 Commission by Executive Order. In the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, we can’t wait. It’s time to make good of the “Promissory Note” that continues to come back marked “insufficient funds,” sated Rev. Dr. Robert Turner.

Dr. Ron Daniels, Convener of the National African America Reparations Commission and Facilitator of the HR-40 Strategy Group said, “Rev. Turner’s 40 for 40 walks are truly visionary and providential. They have the potential to bring national and international attention to the urgent need for President Biden to act on HR-40 immediately. Black History Month is an ideal time for the President make history. We definitely intend to mobilize major support for Rev. Turner’s Black History Month Walk.”
