Statement on passing of Archbishop Desmond

The Institute of the Black World 21st Century joins with the world in mourning the loss Archbishop Desmond Tutu. His courage and moral force as a fearless faith leader, allied with other freedom fighters, caused the rigid walls of apartheid to come tumbling down in South Africa. Archbishop Tutu Chaired the controversial Truth and Reconciliation Commission in hopes of healing the wounds of a new nation. Ever willing to speak truth to power, when necessary, he condemned the corruption of former freedom fighters from the African National Congress as members of the government of the new South Africa. We celebrate his legacy assured that Nelson Mandela and other freedom fighters now welcome him to the ancestor realm. Long live the spirit of Bishop Tutu!
