Dr. Ron Daniels, President of the Institute of the Black World 21st Century and Convener of the National African Reparations Commission, released the statement below following the remarks made by Senator Tommy Tuberville pertaining to reparations:
“The comments made by Senator Tuberville are not only egregious but they are flat out racist. What is more disturbing is that not a single Republican has condemned his outrageous and hurtful rant. President Biden needs to boldly step into the moral void. I am calling on the President to create the HR-40 Reparations Commission by Executive Order and seize the moment now!
Reparations are due to the legacies of enslavement: formerly enslaved Africans and newly arrived immigrants from Africa, the Caribbean, Central and South America and the Diaspora, in response to the injuries and harms inflicted after Emancipation through racially exclusionary policies during the era of Jim Crow Segregation and right up to the present day. All Black people who were harmed by America in America, should be repaired by America in America.”
