Because of its deep roots in the institution of slavery, New Jersey has been called the “slave state of the North.” NJ’s slavery and the generations of structural racism that followed are directly tied to our vast racial disparities today, which are some of the worst in the country.

The cracks of structural racism and oppression in our foundation were created by structural and policy design, not individual behavior. They must therefore be repaired by design.

Hey New Jersey, it’s time to Say The Word: Reparations.
