Change the system not the color of the cops.
A Statement from Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable President Earl Ofari Hutchinson on the Memphis police slaying of Tyre Nichols.
“If proof of proof ever was needed that simply hiring more Black cops will end racist, abusive, policing toward Blacks is needed the case of Tyre Nichols is near textbook proof that should disabuse anyone of that horribly mistaken notion. Black cops reinforce the same culture of abuse, misconduct and contempt for civil rights of individuals that many white cops do when they embrace the Blue Line. It’s the system , not the color of the officer, that is the issue and must be changed to ensure fair, just, and constitutional policing–Not just hiring more Black cops.”
