New York, July 30, 2019 — Dr. Ron Daniels, President of the Institute of the Black World (IBW) and Convener of the National African American Reparations Commission (NAARC), will deliver the keynote address at this year’s ‘WatchNight Gathering’ event organized by The Antigua and Barbuda Reparations Support Commission (ABRSC). The event is scheduled for the Antigua Botanical Gardens on July 31st 2019 at 9:00 pm.

This activity is staged annually in commemoration and celebration of the 1834 emancipation of enslaved Africans and their descendants in Antigua-Barbuda and in the other English-speaking islands of the Caribbean region.

Dr. Daniels, a veteran social and political activist, is the Founder and President of the Institute of the Black World 21st Century (IBW), a progressive, African-centered, action-oriented Resource Center dedicated to empowering people of African descent and marginalized communities (www.ibw21.org).
He is also a Distinguished Lecturer Emeritus at York College, City University of New York where he taught courses in political science.

As the Convener of the National African American Reparations Commission (NAARC), a leading organization within the USA and the global reparations movements, Dr. Daniels and his NAARC colleagues have devised a 10- Point Reparations Program modeled from the 10-Point Program for Reparatory Justice of the CARICOM Reparations Commission (CRC).

“I am delighted to have been invited to address Watchnight Gathering and Emancipation Day audiences this year,” said Dr. Daniels. “It is a wonderful opportunity to both reflect on the historical significance of Emancipation Day and to strengthen the growing ties of collaboration and solidarity between NAARC and the CARICOM Reparations Commission and its member body in Antigua and Barbuda”.
